"The new findings provide evidence that caffeine could be a viable 'treatment' for established Alzheimer's disease, and not simply a protective strategy," lead author Gary Arendash, a University of South Florida neuroscientist, said in a news release. "That's important because caffeine is a safe drug for most people, it easily enters the brain, and it appears to directly affect the disease process."

The researchers hoped that caffeine could present a safe, inexpensive treatment for dementia and wished to conduct human patient trials as soon as possible.

"The findings provide evidence that caffeine could be a viable treatment for established Alzheimer’s disease and not simply a protective strategy," said Arendash.

A study in 2002 found that people who consumed caffeine in mid-life were 60 percent less likely to develop the disease.

It is used as a medium in experiments as it does not contain elements that may affect the results. It also makes good battery water as it is devoid of minerals that tend to reduce the lifespan of cell batteries. It is also used to wash cars and windows as it does not leave any water spots.


These forms of purified water are further used in steam irons for pressing clothes; they help reduce mineral build-up and increase the lifespan of the iron. Some people also use them for household aquariums as they are devoid of chemicals found in tap water.


The consumption of high quality water is no longer a luxury. There sure is a strong demand for pure water. Make Your Weight Loss Permanent


There are many diets available that can help you lose weight, some of them can do it very quickly. However, if you want to make your weight loss permanent, you will need to avoid common mistakes.

Your new diet needs to be a one that you can continue with. Diets that eliminate certain food groups are not sustainable. This means that fat free, protein free or carbohydrate free diets are out!


There are good reasons for this. Our bodies need fat, protein and carbohydrates to function properly. A sustained period without one or more of these, could lead to side effects, and at the very least a lack of energy. Additionally, you would be significantly reducing the choice of foods available to you. Lack of choice and boredom are probably the main reason most people are unable to stick with their diets in the long term.


Many of us are fixated by the speed at which we lose weight. If we only lost a couple of pounds, this is often seen as a failure and the program gets dropped. While those of us who are significantly overweight might expect to lose more weight than this in the earlier weeks, it is not necessary to lose weight any quicker. Ask your self this question - Is the diet varied enough that I can stick with it in the long term? If it is, you are on to a winner. You need to try and make yourself slightly out of breath and get your heart working a little more. If you are struggling for breath and you can feel your heart pounding, then slow right down for a while and find a more comfortable pace. You will find that after a few weeks, you have to work much harder to feel that you are pushing yourself.


Aim for 20 minutes a day if you can. When you feel fit enough, try a few different activities like swimming, or one of the ball sports. Ball sports are good, because you will need to play with friends or join a club. You will get more motivation when you are exercising with friends.


Finally, think positive! You can do it if you give yourself time. A new diet is a lifestyle change that can take time to adjust to, but the rewards are beyond measure.

Your Brain's Physical Exercise Will Make You Intellectually Better


As you may have known, your brain works in a complicated manner. The left side of your brain controls the actions and movement of the right side of your body while the right side of your brain controls that movement of the left side of your body. It may be possible that the side of your brain which controls your dominant hand is more used than the other side. So, if you use your non-dominant hand to do some of your daily activities, do you think it would better your brain's performance?

If you are a right handed person, then most of the time you are stimulating the left side of your brain. If you use your left hand in doing certain tasks, you are able to stimulate the right side of your brain. By doing this, you are awakening the part of your mental faculties that is intuitive and creative. If you are a left handed person, and you use your right hand in doing simple tasks, then you are stimulating the side of your brain that is rational and organized.


There is a book entitled Using Both Sides of the Brain by Tony Buzan. According to Tony Buzan, doing simple exercises or cross-trainings like this could bring additional features to one's mental functioning, and at the same time there will be a total improvement in one's brain power. By doing this continuously, a person may stay mentally young and fresh.


There are other activities which can stimulate the other side of your brain that may be done without really straining yourself. You can just simply walk around your room with your eyes closed, or you can get dressed, or undress with your eyes closed. You can also go back and try some of your childhood games; the game when you rub your stomach with one hand while tapping your head with the other hand is a good brain exercise. Simple tasks like these already constitute physical exercise for your brain, and they can bring good effects to your brain, no matter how trivial they may seem to be.


You may start to wonder regarding the mental condition of the ambidextrous people who are blessed to be able to use both their hands for complicated tasks such as writing. You may think that since they are stimulating both sides of their brain that they are more intelligent than others. This is a misconception; there are no studies or researches which can substantiate this idea.


There are individuals who are able to teach and train themselves to use both their dominant and non-dominant hands to do tasks, and sports like Cricket players. Their training does not necessarily turn them into academic geniuses; so, this may be too much to ask for.


So, whether or not these simple exercises may make you a little bit more intelligent, these physical exercises are still believed to have good effects on your brain. Academically, the results may be minor, or even go unnoticed, but there can be other things which are affected, such as your creativity, organization, and other related features. One thing worth noting is that by doing these exercises, you are stimulating the side of your brain which is not used as often as the other side. Don't you think it would be best to keep them balanced? If you want to better your brain's performance, you might as well try to stimulate your whole brain, and not just a single side.
